So Long 2013

2013 was one of my busiest and best years yet. It was also the first year I switched to shooting senior portraits exclusively. I made the switch because senior portraits are a blast to shoot, but more than that, they’re the kind of portraits I feel I’m best at and want to continue improving at. So, I stopped doing family portraits, stopped doing kids, and stopped doing weddings.

Not only were there business changes, but also personal changes. My wife and I welcomed our third child this summer—a girl this time—and couldn’t be happier about this beautiful addition. And, as some of you know, I’ve also been teaching graphic design part time at McHenry County College. To say that things have been busy is an understatement! Not only with life but with senior portraits as well.

Thank you to all my 2013 and 2014 seniors who chose me to make you senior portraits this past year. It means a lot that you chose me out of all other local photographers. I couldn’t do what I love if it weren’t for you. Here’s to a prosperous and beautiful 2014!

Elise did her senior portrait session during the summer after graduation. Sometimes senior life is so busy that portraits just can’t be managed while in school I guess. So, just before she went off to college we were able to get an awesome senior portrait session in!

We made Elise’s senior portraits on the Woodstock square and at a farm in Bull Valley. We made use of the warm summer sun and snagged some beautiful portraits at both locations. Rarely do I get requests to have props (though I always suggest them), so I was glad that Elise brought her clarinet with to use in portraits in front of the historic Woodstock Opera House, and her track spikes!.

Over all it was a great session with gorgeous results! Enjoy!

2014 McHenry West High School Senior Model | Christina Lim

Christina is a 2014 senior at my old high school: McHenry West High School. It’s been a while since I wandered those halls, and lots has changed. For starters, senior portraits have changed a lot since I was in high school. My portraits were nowhere near as nice or fun as the ones I shoot today.

For Christina’s senior portrait session we shot at Moraine Hills State Park where mosquitoes nearly drained us dry, but we made gorgeous portraits despite the little buggers. The light was perfect, and Christina was a lot fun to work with and willing to try anything.

As a senior model, Christina received a free short session to start, and after she refers at least one other senior, she’ll get a second session—a Back Stage Session, which is two hours of shooting at multiple locations in multiple outfits.
