I’ve known Andy and Terri since gradeschool, but I hadn’t met their kids until we met for their family portrait session at Veteran’s Acres in Crystal Lake. It was such a joy to meet their children and to watch the entire family interact together. I love when families love each other so much you can see it.

We arrived at Veteran’s Acres just as the sun was making its way down past the hilltop, which made for some gorgeous light to shoot in. It might have been one of the very last days for great outdoor photos of the season, and we certainly took advantage and made some great portraits! We moved all over near and around the pond and worked several poses (I always like to make sure there are a few options to choose from). We had fun catching up between shots and ultimately made some beautiful family portraits. See for yourself 🙂

Growin’ Up | Daniel (1 year)

A 1-year-old crawls toward the camera outdoors in Johnsburg, IL

I’ve said it before, and it’s still true: I love shooting fall portraits! I recently shot Daniel’s one-year portraits on the farm where he lives. It was a beautiful October afternoon; the light was warm and soft, about as perfect as you could imagine for October.

The pumpkins in the photos were grown on their fram, several of which were more than 1.5 feet high! Shooting portraits on a farm like this is a photographer’s dream. Around every corner there was more great texture, and the buildings and grounds had such intriguing characteristics that I could have shot there all day and not been bored!

Daniel was such fun to shoot with his mere four teeth and super-cute smile! Gotta love it!

Anytime Portraits | Sam and Her Pups

This was a fun shoot for some anytime portraits with Sam. She brought along her pups and we made portraits of everyone! These were shot at Veteran Acres in Crystal Lake, a park full of great natural backdrops—one of my favorite places to shoot!

More and more, fall is my favorite time of year to shoot. Although, I’ll probably say that about spring as soon as we get there, too. I just love finding that gorgeous natural light and working it outdoors.
