A few months back I shot 3-month portraits of Aaliyah, and just a few weeks ago her parents contacted me for a family session. For this one, Brian, Sarah and Aaliyah met me in McHenry at the Peterson Farm (across from Peterson Park) for a morning shoot. The morning light was gorgeous even if we had to fight some disagreeable wind. I have to say, the morning light was a refreshing change from evening light. Both are wonderful for portraits, but it’s not often that morning shoots fit into someone’s schedule.

After the family shots we did a few images of Aaliyah by herself to mark her 6-month milestone. Love the mirror shots!

Growin’ Up | Russell (2 years)

I’ve had the pleasure of photographing Russell since he was 3-months old. It’s fun to see how he’s growing up through all the stages from baby to toddler, and boy does it happen fast. Over the years each shoot with Russell has been fun, but this latest fall portrait session takes the cake.

I shot Russell’s 2-year-old fall portraits at Veteran’s Acres in Crystal Lake on a warm Saturday afternoon. We played in the leaves, pulled pumpkins in a wagon and had a great time making some great outdoor autumn portraits. Is it just me or does it look like he should be posing for a Gap Kids ad? Thanks Karrie and Rob for allowing me to document these growin’ up milestones!

Growin’ Up | Daniel (1 year)

A 1-year-old crawls toward the camera outdoors in Johnsburg, IL

I’ve said it before, and it’s still true: I love shooting fall portraits! I recently shot Daniel’s one-year portraits on the farm where he lives. It was a beautiful October afternoon; the light was warm and soft, about as perfect as you could imagine for October.

The pumpkins in the photos were grown on their fram, several of which were more than 1.5 feet high! Shooting portraits on a farm like this is a photographer’s dream. Around every corner there was more great texture, and the buildings and grounds had such intriguing characteristics that I could have shot there all day and not been bored!

Daniel was such fun to shoot with his mere four teeth and super-cute smile! Gotta love it!
