2015 Crystal Lake Central High School Senior | Sarah Klos

sklos-blog-01

Full disclosure: Sarah is my niece. I’ve had the pleasure of photographing her many times over the years and it’s been fun to watch her grow and change, and make so many positive strides and accomplishments over the years. Last fall she headed off to college in Michigan—hard to believe it’s already time for that next step.

We had a lot of fun shooting Sarah’s portraits. Not only is she a smart and beautiful young woman, she ran hurdles at Crystal Lake Central and so of course it was appropriate to capture this part of her high school career. She’s also getting quite good with a camera—we should have incorporated photography into this shoot.

Sarah and a friend shaved their heads for St. Baldrick’s in the spring of 2015, so we had an opportunity to make some cool before and after photos. I love her look with the shaved head. There’s a vulnerability that shows, but also strength and confidence, which I believe are more evident.

Congrats on all you’ve accomplished, Sarah. I’m proud of you! I can’t wait to see where your next steps lead!

2015 Prairie Ridge Senior | Michael Linder

Prairie Ridge Senior Portraits by Ryan Klos

Often, guys are hesitant to get their senior portraits made. Maybe they’re just apathetic. Many times they do it just so mom will stop asking. Michael wasn’t super excited to do his portraits either, but he humored us and even ended up managing to enjoy himself by the end. Over all he and his mom are both very happy with our session—and so am I. We shot on the Woodstock square and Emricson Park for two different looks and captured some genuine smiles and senior portraits worth hanging on the wall.

Pageant Headshots | Allison Royer

Pageant Headshots by Ryan Klos

I first met Allison in 2014 when her mom contacted me about doing headshots for a pageant Allison was entering. We got together and had a lot of fun shooting two hours worth of headshots in ideally warm summer light.

The photos turned out great, but what stuck with me was how much fun we had. Allison was up for trying anything, even if we weren’t sure the end result would be quite what we expected. It always makes a session more fun when my clients are willing to experiment a little.

But here’s the most important part: As a result of my headshots, Allison took third place in the Ms. Photogenic portion of the pageant! How awesome is that? I’m honored to have been a part of that.

Fast forward one year and we’re doing headshots for the pageant again. This time we shot on the Woodstock square for an urban look and feel vs. the farm as with her 2014 headshot portrait session. And agin, the results were stunning thanks to Allison’s radiant smile and confidence in front of the camera. Best of luck this year, Allison!

2015 Woodstock North HS Senior | Ashley Jones

Woodstock Senior Portraits by Ryan Klos Photography

Woodstock North Ashley Jones is one of those people whose enthusiasm and personality are contagious. In a good way, of course. She’s involved in all kinds of school activities and sports at Woodstock North and has a heart for helping others (she’s even raising a therapy/service dog named Theo). Her session took place at my Bull Valley Farm location in the early spring and was full of fun, laughter and authentic smiles.

Next step: she’s headed to McHenry County College for two years and has been recruited to play on the Scots women’s basketball team! Congrats and best of luck, Ashley!

2014 McHenry West Senior | Lindsey Wett

Senior Portraits at Moraine Hills State Park

Lindsey was one of my 2014 senior models. We met at Moraine Hills State Park for her senior portraits and couldn’t have had better weather. We had plenty of fun and perfect light for the entire session. With a smile like that it’s difficult to get anything but excellent portraits.

2015 Woodstock High School Senior | Anthony Krueger

Woodstock High School Senior Portraits by Ryan Klos

Anthony’s senior session almost didn’t happen. It started sprinkling a bit when we began shooting, and so we almost canceled. But it let up, I got a few shots and then the drip-drop stopped completely. We got lucky. We pressed on and the rain stayed away until the very end of our shoot.

We had a great session shooting on the Woodstock Square in some familiar spots, but we also hit a few new ones.

Anthony is the second in his family whose senior portraits I’ve had the pleasure of shooting. I also did his brother Phil’s. Both are great guys who have very little stopping them in their future endeavors.
